The very action of painting spurs me on! As a kid, I loved colouring books and I was given encouragement and paper and crayons by my parents and in school. Luckily, my Mother encouraged me to draw and paint and I did! She would say things like, “Tell me about this. “rather than attempting to interpret what I was creating. I enjoy the use of colour. I get lost in the mixing and the brushstrokes. My creative exploration is evolving with these 2-D/3-D pieces.
A recent workshop introduced me to a method of working which encourages a personal action conversation with oneself! The process includes layering of paint, limestone mud, and texturing on wooden panels, some with a built-in niche. The application of photo transfers is incorporated with found objects, familial historical bits and pieces. My poems are sometimes hidden, sometimes visible in the painting or motivates the work.
These pieces encourage a creative freedom that is fulfilling, emotional, personal, mysterious and delightful!
